VECU-STOP® System VS

The result of intensive research and development work

The CEN Crash Cushion System VECU-STOP® VS exemplifies state-of-the-art road safety technology.

Crash cushions (CCs) are specially designed systems that significantly reduce the force of a vehicle impact with a rigid obstacle. They help to mitigate hazardous areas that cannot be adequately secured or are insufficiently protected by other safety measures.

The primary focus is on protecting vehicle occupants by shielding them from excessive accelerations.

Crash cushions can be installed either freestanding or in conjunction with subsequent vehicle restraint systems.

The functional properties of such combined systems must be demonstrated by the crash cushion manufacturer in accordance with RPS: 2009 (FRG), for example:
a) Steel systems
b) Concrete barriers
c) Tunnel portals and niches

The VECU-STOP® crash cushion is, according to testing standard DIN EN 1317 Part 3, a vehicle-capturing and vehicle-redirection system of Type R.

Type R refers to:
… vehicle stopping and redirecting crash cushion systems, which include the VECU-STOP® system. They are designed to stop head-on impacting vehicles over a defined deceleration distance and to redirect laterally impacting vehicles without them penetrating the crash cushion.
