History

The Roots of SPS Schutzplanken GmbH

The roots of SPS Schutzplanken GmbH go back to the renowned A. NEHER GmbH in Aschaffenburg, an internationally known company that was closed in 1985 for economic reasons. In April of the same year, SPS Schutzplanken GmbH was founded—employing skilled specialists from A. NEHER’s installation department.

Founding Years (1985–1990s)
Dr. Hermann Urlberger was appointed Managing Director. Together with Karl Urlberger, who brought over 30 years of industry experience and a high degree of innovative strength, he laid the foundation for the company’s success. In 1991, Alexandra Urlberger joined the management team, providing lasting reinforcement.
From the very beginning, SPS positioned itself as a specialist for vehicle restraint systems and custom-made special constructions—with a clear focus on innovation and differentiation from the competition.

Technological Progress and Expansion
Through numerous national and international protective rights, SPS secured a leading position in the industry early on. In addition to standard products, modular special solutions were developed that could be flexibly adapted to customer requirements.
An integrated quality management system ensured modern and efficient processes.

In 2015, the production company Bozem Stahlbau GmbH moved into new manufacturing facilities, followed in 2017 by SPS’s relocation of its administrative offices into a modern new building in Ringheim, near Aschaffenburg—offering optimal logistical conditions and short communication paths.

Leadership Changes and New Ownership
In 2022, long-time authorized signatory Alexandra Urlberger took over as Managing Director. In March 2024, the company’s owner, who had represented the business since its founding and had significantly shaped its development with extensive experience and expertise, passed away unexpectedly. The company honors his contributions with deep respect.
On October 1, 2024, SPS was acquired by BOZEM Stahlbau GmbH and continued as an independent subsidiary. Stefanie and Markus Bozem took over as new Managing Directors. On June 30, 2025, Alexandra Urlberger left the company.
